A Fork in the Road

He spent eleven years
Working on the line
Building war planes
For a defense contractor,
And was due to be laid off
In a month or so.
He was pondering
What to do next.
In the meantime
He was putting in
As much overtime
As he could,
Trying to give
Himself a cushion
That would give him
The freedom
To pursue his passion.
He was considering
Going into business
For himself
Restoring old cars.
It was something
He had always wanted to do,
But had sold out
To the security of a paycheck
Doing a job
He never really liked.
Maybe this was
The opportunity as well as
The kick in the butt
He needed to force him
To make the change.
All to often,
We wait until life
Forces us to
Incorporate passion
Into the life we lead.
For us
