The Gift of Acceptance

If I could accept
The way she is
And the way she isn’t,
How much better
Would it be for me
And for her?
I sit as Judge and Jury
And Executioner too,
Wrapped in disapproval,
Voicing my disdain,
Registering my complaints.
The harshness of my ruling
She is wrong!
She is wrong!
Exacts a painful toll
Leaves us both seething
In anger and frustration.
What if I were
To take the lead,
Declaring amnesty?
A simple acceptance
Is all it takes
To discover our affinity!
Forgiveness is a gift,
You see!
To myself
As much as to her,
But more important
It gives us both
Room to grow.
