A Different Playing Field

I find myself
Thrust into a position
That requires skills
I never learned in school,
And much of which
I never imagined
Myself possessing
Even a year ago.
I am no longer
Operating within
The realm of engineering,
Which I knew so well,
And whose outcome
Was so predictable.
In a certain sense,
No training or experience
I have had up to this point,
Qualifies me for
For what I am now doing,
But everything I ever did
Played a significant role
In getting me
To the point where
I was able to act on,
Or even recognize,
The opportunity
In the situation
I found myself in.
Instead of engineering
Construction projects,
I am now engineering
Project teams.
This is way beyond matching
People to tasks.
It is about matching
Companies to each other,
And establishing relationships
Between the parties,
That will enable those companies
To take on projects
That none of the individual companies
Could possibly have
Succeeded at by themselves.
Instead of 5 to 20
Million dollar projects,
I am now looking at
Long term projects
Of up to a billion dollars,
And maybe even more.
Suddenly I have awaken
To a world of
Outrageous possibilities,
And projects of
Monstrous proportions,
And I now possess the power
To do something about it.
