Impending Reality

He perpetuated
The illusion
That he had it made,
And acted as if
He didn’t have
A care in the world.
Reality was
Another matter.
Though he earned
A substantial income,
His finances were in
Complete disarray.
He scrambled
From one crisis
To another,
Barely a step ahead
Of his creditors,
Perpetually afraid
People would find out
The mess he was in.
