Formality's End

My wife and I
Had a guest
Over for dinner,
So we decided
To make it
A special occasion.
For a touch
Of elegance,
We brought out
Our finest china
And silverware,
And draped
The dining table
With a fancy tablecloth
And designer linen.
We even ate
By candlelight
For a bit of
Romantic ambiance.
The meal was exquisite,
And was topped off
With a pumpkin pie
Capped with whipped cream.
I jokingly threatened
To spray my daughters
With whipped cream
From the can,
And the guest,
Apparently not knowing me
Very well,
Said I wouldn’t dare.
I took that
As a personal challenge,
And proceeded to chase
The two girls
Around the house
Spraying them as I went.
In retrospect,
It was a perfect end
To the formality
Of the affair,
And much more inline with
The normal character
Of our household.
