A Matter of Honor

He was a most
Unusual man!
His only currency
Was his word,
But he treated it
As if it were gold.
It was a matter
Of honor with him.
When he told you
He would
Do something,
You could
Bank on it
Being done,
But he was
An exceptionally
Wise man as well.
He understood
That his treasure
Was worthless
If hoarded
And that its value
Solely depended
On how it was spent.
He could easily
Have limited
His commitments
To that which
Could be predictably
Accomplished,
But he chose
A far more arduous
And inventive route.
He stretched himself
By promising things
Beyond which
He knew how to do,
Trusting that
A solution could
Always be found.
In so doing,
He stepped past
The limitations
Of his world.
As a consequence,
His accomplishments
Seem nothing
Short of miraculous
