A Mother's Lament

A mother’s heart
Is breaking,
And her faith
Is quietly shaken,
As she watches
The innocent child
Who was her daughter,
Disappearing
Before her eyes.
It seems like
Young girls
Are growing up
Faster than they
Ever did before.
Her mother
Cries out in anger
And in shame,
Wondering why
Her daughter started
Running wild
And breaking
All the rules
The moment she
Became a teen,
But countless mothers
Have shared
That same lament
For a thousand years,
And maybe more
And it will be that way
For at least another
Generation or two.
