She’s the daughter
Of an educated,
But simple man
And a woman
Whose fiery spirit
Excited him.
She was gifted with
An insatiable curiosity
About the world
Around her.
From the moment
She learned to read,
She read ever book
She could get
Her hands on,
Digging ever deeper,
Trying to get at
The underlying
Principals that define
The universe
And how it works.
She studied
Each subject until
She clearly understood
The elemental truths
Upon which it was based.
Naturally she excelled
Academically.
She always went
Well beyond the limits
Of each assignment
Without coaxing,
For she apparently had
Infinite fascination
And virtually
No resistance to learning.
She made it all seem
Ridiculously easy.
She must have struggled
Far more than she let on,
For she developed
A steely resolve
And a ferocious determination
To succeed
That could only have come
From difficulties overcome.
Her parents are
Rightfully proud
Of her accomplishments,
But it is her humble ability
To take coaching
Along the way
That ensures
She is destined
To leave her mark
On the world.
