The Comic Perspective

He was gifted
With an innate
Sense of humor
That could get
Him through
Almost anything,
Yet he was
Never boisterous
Or overly obnoxious
With its use.
He entertained himself
Contemplating
The ridiculousness
Of the situations
He found himself in,
And the insanity
Of the characters
Around him.
He wasn’t necessarily
Making fun of them,
At least not out loud,
But eyes danced with
Perpetual amusement
At what he saw.
He may have had
A sarcastic side,
But it was largely
Kept in check.
He had an endearing ability
To laugh at fate
And his own pretensions,
And to recognize
Fundamental absurdities
Without making others
Uncomfortable with their role
In the comedy.
