The Coffee Shop Social Club

The four men
Have been meeting
At the coffee shop
Every day
For the last ten years.
They’re all retired,
Or are just plain tired
Of working,
So their daily
Get together
Has become
The center
Of their universe.
They have warn out
Their jokes and stories
On each other,
So mostly what they share
Is their boredom,
And their frustrations
With the way
The world seems to
Spin around them
Ever faster and faster,
Leaving them behind.
At least they have
Each other to lean on,
And I suppose in many ways,
It could be worse,
But I would much rather
Go out in flames
Than smolder that way.
Besides, I don’t
Think I will ever run out of
Stories to tell.
