An American Tradition

Thanksgiving is
An American tradition,
A hangover from
Our Pilgrim past.
It’s the quintessential
Harvest holiday
Where we gather
Friends and family,
Stuff a gobbler
And then ourselves.
Mama will be
In the kitchen
Fussing and fretting
For hours on end,
Cooking that bird
To perfection.
The aroma taunts us,
Wetting our appetites,
Readying us
For the feast ahead.
It is a day of gluttony,
But no matter
How much we devour,
There is always
More then we can eat,
And the leftovers
Flavor numerous meals
In the days that follow.
