From outward appearances
He had life handled.
He had a great job,
Earned plenty of money
And was married
To a beautiful woman.
He was fit and trim,
Young, suave and debonair,
The picture of success.
He seemed to work hard
And enjoy what he did,
But the truth was
That it was all for show.
In reality he only did
Enough to get by.
In his determination
To look good,
He distanced himself
From those around him,
Including his wife,
So that they couldn’t see
What his world was really like.
As a consequence,
He felt alone
And pressured to perform
Which stole much of the joy
He might have had
Out of his accomplishments.
