I suppose the villagers
There in Yala,
In the southern
Thai peninsula
Got used to me
Being something of an
Animal doctor,
For they continually
Brought me specimens
They had trapped
Or collected
In the rainforest.
One day they brought me
A fully grown eagle
Which I inadvisably
Tried to keep
In an extra room
Of my house.
I quickly was confronted
With the folly
Of that decision
When I discovered
That eagle have adapted
To life in the trees
By spraying their excrement
Outward from their roost.
This is excellent hygiene
When they are in the wild,
But horribly messy
Within the confines
Of a room.
After I got rid of him,
I spent close to two months
Sanding the walls down
To remove the evidence
Of his short stay.
