Unreasonable Divide

The two people
Who gave me life,
No matter their faults
Or what mistakes
I say they made,
Are still my parents.
They are so close,
Yet so far away,
Estranged from me
By a distance
Not measured in miles.
I find no freedom
To be with them,
And yet they are
With me always.
I strive not to
Be like them,
Yet the more I strive,
The more I see
Of them in me!
How can I, I ask
Of no one in particular,
Bridge that gap between us,
The unreasonable divide,
That penalizes me
Our relatedness?
