My wife was perpetually vigilant,
To the point of being neurotic,
When we were on the road
With the kids in the back seat.
She was constantly worried
That it might be too windy
If the window was open
Or too hot
If the window was closed.
It was clearly a case
Of maternal instinct driving
A sane woman crazy.
She would tell me
To roll the window up
If it was down
Or to roll it down
If it was up.
Our kids quickly caught on,
And we would have
An ongoing chorus
Of young voices shouting
“It’s windy!” - “I’m hot!”
As the windows
Yo-yoed up and down.
It became their favorite way
To pester their dad!
