English Lyrics

Though we were obviously
Not in the United States,
English lyrics blared at us
From a multitude
Of street bands.
There were three or four
Musical groups
Competing for attention
On every block.
Many of the singers
Sang with a distinct
German accent,
But some clearly didn’t
Speak English at all,
And had no clue
What they were singing.
We heard all sorts of
Peculiar mispronunciations
Adding a touch of humor
To our meanderings
Through the streets
Of Munich.
