A Spilt Cup of Coffee

A cup of coffee spills
Creating a mess
That needs to be
Cleaned up.
There may be a stain
That will come out
In the next laundry,
But little more,
Until our mind
Begins to play.
The inadvertent spill
Can easily become
A ominous portent
Of things to come.
If we think of ourselves
As innately clumsy,
That silly spill may be
All the evidence
We need to file for
Permanent disability.
If we entertain fears
Of growing old,
Getting feeble,
And loosing
Our faculties,
There is our proof.
If we see ourselves
In opposition
To the universe
Around us,
What more
Confirmation
Do we need
That the world
Is out to get us?
As absurd
As it may seem,
Our mind will have
Even a minor
Coffee stain
Color our day
And possibly our life.
