She had set up
Her easel
Overlooking the cliffs
Of Palace Verdes,
And was busy
Capturing the view
On canvas.
I slipped quietly
Behind her
To observe
Her work,
And noticed
That she was not
Painting the scene
As I saw it.
In reality,
The area was overcast
And gray,
But she was painting it
As bright and sunny
With vibrant colors.
She saw me
Watching her work,
And commented
That artists
Can paint things
As they are,
As they were,
Or as they might be.
It’s totally
Up to their discretion.
Actually,
I liked her version
Better than
My own reality.
