The storm had brought
High winds
And crashing waves
That chewed up
The shoreline
Leaving rocks
Where a sandy beach
Once had been.
The waves battered
The local pier,
Overwhelmed
The coastal defenses,
And washed away
Several beachfront
Bungalows.
As a spectator
To the carnage,
I was awestruck
By the intensity
Of the battle,
Yet strangely invigorated
To be reminded
Of nature’s dominion
Over man.
