The Mountain

The mountain towers
Over the surrounding range,
Dominating the terrain.
Its peak is usually
Shrouded in clouds,
But on those rare occasions
When it thrusts
Its icy head out
For all the world to see,
It’s breathtakingly beautiful.
The weather up there
Can be dangerously fickle,
Clear and shiny one moment
And a raging blizzard the next.
Its slopes are rugged,
Steep and treacherous.
Only the hardy
Or the foolhardy
Try to conquer its face
And there are always
A few of each
Answering its call.
