She was a woman
Of substantial means,
Someone not driven
By the need
To pinch pennies
Or make dollars stretch.
Normally she frequented
The classier stores
At the other end of town
And would not have
Considered entering
Such a place,
But curiosity
Got the better of her.
It was there,
So why not check it out?
Once she entered
The 99¢ world,
She was like a tourist
On a Tijuana shopping spree,
But it wasn’t until
She exited the store
And saw the 97¢ store
Across the street
That the impulse
To be cheap
Really took hold.
She laughed out loud,
Imagining herself
Returning everything
She had purchased
Moments before
And crossing the street
To shop!
