For not getting

While I had
The chance.
I foolishly allowed
Superficial banter
To masquerade
As real communication,
And totally missed
The opportunity
To discover
Who you are.
I failed to speak
My mind
Or to say
What I was
Really thinking.
I didn’t even let on
That I was interested.
Who knows
What intimacy
We might have
Achieved
Had I been
A little less
Circumspect.
