The guy seemingly had it all.
He was at the top of his field,
A corporate litigation attorney
Making lots of money,
Almost more than he could spend.
He lived the life
Of the rich and famous.
He could afford
The best of the best
And that was what he sought.
He was married to
A simple but elegant lady,
One who could turn heads
In any crowd.
All she wanted was his warmth,
The pleasure of his touch,
And the key to his heart.
He gave her things,
But not himself,
And he kept tabs
On every item bought.
He must have reminded her
A hundred times or more,
The cost of the things
He had given,
Rubbing her nose
In his supposed generosity,
But she didn’t care about
Any of those things.
It was painfully obvious
He cared more about
The supposed gifts
Than he cared for her.
When that truth sank in,
She turned cold,
And soon parted
From the fool
And his money.
The sad fact is
In all his calculations
Of how much that cost him,
He may never comprehend
What he had
Or what he lost.
