The Educational Process

Whatever degree
Of formal schooling
We eventually
End up getting,
We soon discover
That was only
The opening salvo
In the process
Of our education.
Much of what
We need to know
In order to be
Successful in life
Can’t be learned
From books.
It’s experiential
In nature,
And like it or not,
We have to go out
And go through it
Ourselves before
The wisdom sinks in.
In a trial and error
Process,
We have to figure out
What works for us,
And what doesn’t,
And why.
We have to learn
How to think,
How to propel
Ourselves forward,
And how to overcome
The circumstances
Of our lives.
Most of all,
We need to find ways
To do all that
Without becoming
Frustrated with,
Tired of
Or indifferent to
To the lessons
Life is trying
To teach us
Along the way.
