The guy had spent
Nearly half his life
Studying the obscure,
And unfathomable
Reaches of his field,
And had earned
A Ph.D. in the process,
But never found
A practical application
For any of it.
It seems he
Has replaced
Whatever
Common sense
He might have
Originally had
With a head full of
Arcane theories
And untested notions
About how life works,
But it never quite
Worked the way
He thought it should.
His refusal
To let life teach him
Anything he didn’t
Already know
Left him
Grossly overeducated
For the amount
Of wisdom gained.
