Demolition

Just outside window
Was an old building
That had been a kennel
For many years,
And was now slated
To be torn down.
The demolition crew
Showed up
Sporting a huge
Caterpillar dozer
With mechanical jaws
Designed to bite into
And rip apart structure
Such as that.
It resembled
A giant Pac Man,
Gobbling up chunks
Of the old building.
I watched in utter fascination,
The glee with which
The operator set about
His work.
He attacked that building
With a savagery
I have seldom
Witnessed before,
Biting ever bigger pieces,
And ripping
Them to shreds.
This was obviously
The fulfillment of
His teenage fantasy,
And he was enjoying
Every moment of it.
