The intense summer
Lightning extravaganza,
Coupled with the tumultuous
Percussion of thunder,
Spook the local dogs,
Sending them
Into frenzied bouts
Of yowling and barking.
There is a hot, stagnant,
Heaviness to the air
That inspires lethargy
In all but the dogs.
The rain is sporadic at best,
Hot to the touch,
Barely soothing,
Yet coming down
In a deluge
Just a few miles away.
Heat flashes outline the clouds
Punctuated by
Random bolts of lightening
Crisscrossing the sky.
High irregular winds
Ravage the trees
And hurl their might
Against the window panes.
It’s old Mother Nature
Kicking up a storm.
