It was a story
She made up
About herself
A long time ago,
That she was ugly,
And no one wanted her.
Whether it was true
Or not
Made no difference at all
Because she
Accepted it as fact.
Every time
She looked in the mirror,
She saw who
She thought she was,
But not herself.
Her relationships
Seemed to follow a pattern
Where the guy
Left her for another,
And she took that as proof
Of her original contention.
She is actually
A very attractive lady
Who needs to seriously question
Her underlying beliefs,
As well as the sentence
She passed on herself.
