He must have been
Asleep at the wheel,
Or distracted by
By the circumstances
He encountered
Along the way,
For the river boat
He was piloting
Had been drifting
For the longest time,
Heading downstream
With the flow.
No wonder
The boat ran aground
And got stuck
In the mud.
That was what it took
For him to wake up
And decide to take control.
It took all the skill
And concentration
He could muster
To get the boat
Out of the muck
It was in.
Once the boat was free,
He was able to dictate
The course he took.
