One thing led to another
And there I was,
About to walk my oldest daughter
Down the aisle.
She was dressed
In the same wedding gown
That my wife had worn
Some twenty-one years before.
She was a beautiful sight to see
Standing next to me.
As we started down the aisle,
Her grip on my arm tightened
And she started to hyperventilate.
She was totally excited
And momentarily overwhelmed
As reality of the occasion set in.
Just for an instant,
She was my little girl again.
I, with all my fatherly concern,
Teased her,
Reminding her to breathe
Which was enough
To get her to the altar.
Having done my part,
I could relax and enjoy
The rest of the ceremony.
