Levitation

I read stories
When I was young
About Indian mystics
Who supposedly
Mastered the art of levitation,
And I watched magicians
Who created the illusion
Of objects and people
Floating in space.
I wanted to believe
That levitation was possible.
I remember lying there
On my bed as a child
Concentrating
With all my might
Trying to levitate,
Wanting to feel myself
Getting lighter,
And being frustrated
When nothing happened.
In time I became
A skeptic of most
Of the possibilities
Of my youth.
