Go-Kart Racing

Living on top of the hill
Had its advantages.
My friend, Joey and I
Became experts
At building go-karts
And racing them
Down the local streets
When we were
Seven and eight years old.
We scrounged
Building materials
From wherever
We could find them,
And our little
Engineless-karts
May not have
Looked like much,
But they were
Capable of reaching
Near terminal velocity
Barreling down those hills.
We risked life and limb,
Careening around corners,
And playing chicken
With any cars
We encountered.
I think the obvious danger
Compounded the thrill.
