Star Gazing

One drawback
To city life
Is the way
The street lights
Drown out all
But a few
Of the stars
Each night.
It’s worth it
To drive out
Into the country,
Or to head up
Into the mountains
Away from
The lights of town
Ever once in a while,
To remind ourselves
Of the vastness
And beauty
Of the universe
Around us.
On a clear night,
The entire sky
Will glow
With the light from
A billion, billion stars,
More than anyone
Could possibly count.
Many of those
Are not actually stars,
But whole galaxies
As vast as our own,
Offering infinite possibilities
That someone
Somewhere out there
Will be looking up at us
And wondering

If anyone is out there,
Look up at them.
