I am sitting in a restaurant
Down at the pier
Overlooking the harbor,
Soaking up the warmth
Of the fire to my side.
A step away,
A young couple sits,
Eyes aglow,
With their hearts on fire
For the passion
Of the night.
Further still,
An elderly couple
Are holding hands
Across the table,
Gazing into each other’s eyes,
Oblivious to all
Except each other.
There is a softness
To their voices,
A gentle peace
Which envelops them.
A sailboat silently passes
With a man standing proud
At the helm,
Tacking into the harbor.
I watch as the sun sinks
Into the horizon
And the shore lights
Begin to flicker on.
Bit by bit,
The night comes to life
With a richness
That colors my soul.
I sit alone,
Not the least bit sad,
Contemplating life,
Observing the world,
Totally present
To its beauty.
