A feeling of euphoria
Often envelops me
As I begin a distant drive.
It usually strikes
While I am still fresh,
Invigorated by what I see,
Before I tire
From the monotony
Of the road.
It excites me
To be on the move,
And it doesn’t
Seem to matter
Where I’m heading.
I might be passing
Through a desert wasteland,
Cutting across
The Kansas plain,
Meandering up and down
The Colorado Rockies,
Or working my way
Through the traffic
Of some nameless city,
When the ecstasy
Of being at one
With the world,
And in awe of its beauty,
Silently overtakes me.
