The Rescuer

Her intent was to rescue
The downtrodden
From the treacherous
Currents of life.
She would jump
Into the flow
At the slightest
Sign of struggle,
And try to drag
The person to safety.
She may have
Thought of herself
As a life guard,
But people
Often resented
Her crude attempts
At CPR,
Especially if
They weren’t drowning
In the first place.
