It was the story of his life,
Spoken without the polish
Or flowery embellishments
Normally accompanying
Such personal tales.
It was raw and uncut.
No effort was made
To hide the truth,
Or to favorably color
His public image.
It was unquestionably genuine
And it brought tears
To everyone fortunate enough
To heard him speak.
It was a speech
Generated the moment
It was given,
Not some carefully
Orchestrated presentation,
Yet it was a speech
He had delivered
Countless times
To various groups
Across the country,
And his words never failed
To resonate
The heart strings
Of a crowd.
