Opinions of Consequence

In a world of
Instant global news,
We may witness
History being made
Half a world away,
And we will likely
Develop opinions
And judgments
About those events
Based on our
Remote perspective.
One person’s
Point of view
Will probably be
Just as valid
As the next,
Unless we chance to be
Someone who was
Intimately involved
In what happened.
Even among those
Who were
Personally involved,
There are levels
Of involvement
To distinguish.
One person might be
An innocent bystander,
Someone still
Scratching their head
And wondering
What happened,
While the next person
May have been
At the epicenter of it all,
Directing the action
Or reaction.
The latter individuals
Are the ones
Whom the reporters
Need to focus on,
For they are the only ones
Who will have opinions
Of consequence.
