As far as liars go,
He was about
As good as they come.
He had perfected lying
To an art form,
But it was a skill
That would cost him dearly.
He was in junior high school
When he decided
He would rather
Spend the day
At the lake
With his girl friend
Than go to school.
He called his mother at work
And told her
He wasn’t feeling good,
That he was
Going to stay home from school.
Just as he was ready
To head out to the lake,
His father came home
To find out what was the matter.
He couldn’t tell him the truth,
So feigned being sick.
His father took him
To the hospital emergency room
Where a doctor examined him.
Again he couldn’t tell the truth,
And convinced the doctor
That he had appendicitis
And was promptly operated on.
He did gain a special status
At the school
For the extent to which
Somebody would go
So as not to tell the truth.
His parents didn’t
Find out what really happened
Until many years later.
