In the mind of a child
Anything is possible.
One minute he might be
Superman,
Able to leap tall buildings
In a single bound,
And the very next moment,
He could be Zorro,
Sword fighting with fiends
Only he can see.
His world is enriched
By myths and magic,
Demons and Saints,
Santa Claus
And the Tooth Fairy.
In his fertile mind,
Stories take hold like
“Ali Baba
And the Forty Thieves,”
And he amuses himself
Visualizing riches
Beyond measure
Stashed away
In a secret cave
Only he can find.
His parents
Are lumbering giants
And guardian angels
Who are there solely
To do his bidding.
He has spirited conversations
With imaginary friends
In a complicated language
Understood only by them.
Everyday in the life
Of this child
Is a miraculous adventure.
The innocence
We adults perceive
Is merely the absence
Of the oppressive box
We define as reality.
