If a Cat Acted Human

If a cat were to try
To catch a bird
And fail,
He would probably
Just curl up
And go to sleep
Someplace and wait
For the next opportunity,
But if that cat
Acted human
Here is what he would do:

The first stage
Would be denial!
He would claim
That he was just practicing,
That he didn’t intend
To catch that bird anyway!

The second stage
Would be blame!
He would declare
That it was someone else’s fault,
Not his,
That somebody distracted him!

The third stage
Would be recrimination!
He would be angry
And curse that he should
Have done better,
He must be getting old!






The fourth stage
Would be guilt!
He would question why
He always has to do
The silly sparrow thing anyway,
And would curse himself
For being cat!

Now why
You might ask
Can’t we be more cat,
It certainly would be simpler!
