They were a cheerful
And playfully happy
Couple from Finland
Who were gallivanting
Around Turkey
On a quick tour
When we happened
To run into them.
They told us they had
Eight children,
Seven in rapid succession,
Then one more
Almost twenty years later.
My quick witted friend,
Thinking about the gap
Between their children
Commented, “That must have been
Around the time
When television was introduced!”
They thought
About that for a second,
Then good-naturedly
Laughed and said, yes,
Those Finnish Winters
Were long and cold
And there was nothing else
For them to do
Until television came along!
