The Cultivated Tale

I spent my youth
Cultivating a tale,
And my adulthood
Weeding the garden
The grew out of
My youthful follies.
Now that I think of it,
My youth didn’t end
Until I was
Well past forty,
And my adulthood
Has barely begun.
Without wallowing
In the past,
Or romanticizing
The days of yore,
I can tell you
A most amazing story
Full of varied
Twists and turns,
About how I got here
And the things
I learned along the way.
